Grades 9-12 Science Activities

Before: Using resources such as the news media and Internet, research the activities that occur at the local Emergency Operations Center (EOC) with respect to city and county governments and the support services provided to citizens before a hurricane. Write a brief press release announcing to the public the types of services that EOC provides to the community.
During:

Listen to media reports to monitor the percentage of electrical power losses occurring in selected areas in the city, county, and state that are within the path of the hurricane. Create a graph illustrating the loss of power in the affected areas.

After: The number of deaths caused by hurricanes has dropped dramatically since the turn of the century. Use the data below to draw a bar graph that will show this trend
